MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE ON SOCIAL ACTIVITY, FAMILY AND MOTHERHOOD, PARTICIPATION TO FORUM WITH SUBJECT:

«Large Families and the future of Humanity»,

Moscow, 9-12 September 2014

Following the invitation of the Chairperson of the Committee on Social Activity, Family and Motherhood Mrs. Elena Mizulina, Member of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, an I.A.O. delegation, headed by the I.A.O. Secretary General Mr. Anastasios Nerantzis, with the participation of MPs from Estonia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Montenegro, Romania and Serbia and the I.A.O. Advisor Dr. Kostas Mygdalis visited Moscow.

The meeting of the Committee on Social Activity, Family and Motherhood, was held at a Hall in the State Duma. The President of the I.A.O. General Assembly Mr. Sergey Popov welcomed the participants. The Chairperson of the Committee Mrs. Elena Mizulina, following her greeting speech, gave the floor to the I.A.O. Secretary General Mr. Anastasios Nerantzis for his speech. The Members of the Committee, as well as the I.A.O. Advisors, presented interventions on the subject of the Committee: «Legislation on family protection and family policy».

Following an invitation by St. Andrew the First-Called Foundation the I.A.O. Members also participated at the Forum with subject: «Large family and future of Humanity».

During the Plenary Session of the Forum, the I.A.O. Secretary General Mr. Anastasios Nerantzis presented a speech and stressed inter-alia: «…However, we should realize that in our era the traditional and sustainable over time, notions of marriage and fatherhood have been nearly overtaken, mainly on western societies. Parenting of children does not consist anymore, the main (or even the only) reason for marriage. Extending possibility to same-sex marriage (currently in force only on certain countries), civil partnerships etc., will inevitably overtake likely standards and will replace them with a new family model and relationship, in general. However, it is firmly applicable that ever since the 2nd century A.D., Modestinus’ definition of marriage is «a union of a man and a woman».

The works of the Forum were concluded with Roundtable discussion: «Pro Family legislation and Family Policy», held at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior.
