KOLYMPARI, CHANIA, CRETE, 13-19 APRIL 2019. SYMPOSIUM OF MODERN ICON-PAINTING ART

In the framework of the festive events, dedicated to the 25 years since the foundation of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (I.A.O.) and following the 3rd I.A.O. International Competition of Icon-painting art with subject: “The Resurrection of Jesus Christ”, a symposium of modern icon-painting art with subject: “Is the tradition binding for the continuation of the iconographic ecclesiastical art?” was held at the premises of the Orthodox Academy of Crete, from 13 to 19 April 2019.

Forty (40) iconographers and experts from 14 countries around the world participated at the Symposium, ie: Armenia, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia and Ukraine. During the works of the Symposium, several substantial proposals for the progression of this initiative were presented. Moreover, Icon-painting workshops were organized and the works of the icon-painters were offered to the Orthodox Academy of Crete.

In the framework of the Symposium, a video, dedicated to the 25-year course of the I.A.O. was presented, while the opening of the Symposium was declared by the I.A.O. Secretary General, Dr. Andreas Michailidis.
