RESOLUTION ON THE DRAFT OF THE EUROPEAN CONSTITUTION | 10th Assembly

We, the members of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy, convened in the annual General Assembly, in Vilnius, Lithuania from 26-29 June 2003 and were informed of the draft of the European Constitution, presented by the President of the European Convention for the Future of Europe, Valery Giscard d’Estaing, at the Thessaloniki European Summit some days ago.

In this draft, any reference to Christianity, as an aspect of configuration of the European culture, has been eliminated therefore there is no record of the historical presence of Christianity and its effect in the European continent, in the course of the last two thousands years.

Since we belong to the European family, some closer together and some further apart, we consider this attitude offensive, to the European history, science and the truth.

When reviewing this draft, in the Intergovernmental Assembly, we address the leaders of the European Union and request from them to restore the truth.
