NUR-SULTAN, KAZAKHSTAN, 23 – 24 SEPTEMBER 2019. 4TH MEETING OF SPEAKERS OF THE EURASIAN COUNTRIES’ PARLIAMENTS

The Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (I.A.O.) participated to the 4th meeting of Speakers of the Eurasian Countries’ Parliaments in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, 23-24 September 2019and was represented by the I.A.O. Member, Mr. Ioannis Sarakiotis, MP.
In the framework of the aforementioned event, Mr. Sarakiotis held bilateral meetings with representatives of Parliaments and read a greeting message of the I.A.O. Secretary General Dr. Andreas Michailidis, stressing inter-alia:
“…The region of Eurasia from ancient times to the present constitutes a wide geographical area with prominent elements of pluralism. It is a region that combines different peoples, different religions, different cultures and different political systems. “Eurasia” in political terms has great potential in both regional and international politics. Its long tradition in peaceful coexistence and co-operation among peoples may be the driving force for elaborated activity towards the consolidation and promotion of principles and values of democracy, human rights, parliamentarianism, environmental protection, peaceful settlement of international disputes and resolution of modern socio-political problems.
The I.A.O. since its establishment, has expressed the significance of the cooperation among national, regional and international parliamentary bodies with representatives of religions. Such a cooperation can prove beneficial for parliaments as well as religions. On the one hand, parliaments can gain insight on the particular needs of people of faith and therefore cope better with their political work. On the other hand, benefits of this cooperation are also apparent for the religions themselves, as the voices of people of faith are heard and can be protected from potential threats…”
