A delegation of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (I.A.O.) recently hold a productive visit to Budapest, Hungary from June 4th to June 6th, 2023. Led by Mr. Panikos Leonidou, member of the House of Representatives of Cyprus, who represented the Secretary General of the I.A.O. Dr Maximos Charakopoulos, with the participation of Mr Alexander Cotric, member of the Parliament of Serbia, Dr Kostas Mygdalis, I.A.O. Advisor and Mr Laokratisz Koranisz, a local parliamentarian, member of the Hungarian Parliament.
The visit began on 5th of June with a morning meeting between the delegation and the Prayer Breakfast Group of the Hungarian Parliament. During the meeting, the I.A.O. delegation had an opportunity to present its current activities to the attendees, providing valuable insights into their ongoing work.
Later that day, the delegation held an official meeting with His Excellency the Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament Mr. László Kövér. The meeting centered around the I.A.O.’s recent interventions in the Dialogue on the Future of Europe, as well as discussing potential collaborations in various domains. The delegation received positive feedback and expressed their satisfaction for future cooperation.
On 6th of June, a successful presentation of the volume titled “Hagia Sophia: The Churches of the Wisdom of God Around the World” took place at the Center of Byzantine Studies at the College Eötvös József.
After their stay in Budapest, the delegation traveled to Vienna, Austria, where they had scheduled meetings with the leadership of the International Network of Catholic Legislators (ICLN).
In addition, the delegation visited His Eminence Cardinal of Austria Schönborn.
The next day, the delegation had a friendly meeting and briefing by His Eminence Arsenios, Metropolitan of Austria of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
