Athens, 26 March 2024. Press Release
“Please accept the sincere condolences of me personally, as well as of the leadership of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy, for the dozens of innocent victims of the barbaric and despicable terrorist attack at the Crocus City Concert Hall. This manifestation of the most cynical cruelty arises solely from a blind hatred of human life, and cannot have any justification whatsoever. Still less has it there are no religious motives, as invoked by the initiators of the heinous crime.” The aforementioned was emphasized by the Secretary General of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO), Member of the Hellenic Parliament Dr. Maximos Charakopoulos, in his letter to the Chairman of the State Duma of Russia, Mr. Vyacheslav Volodin, regarding the deadly terrorist attack in Moscow.
The head of the IAO expresses the hope that “all those guilty of these heinous acts will be arrested and receive the punishment they deserve. In these difficult times, our thoughts are with the relatives of the victims, the injured and the Russian people.”
The IAO Secretary General notes that “as you know for thirty years, all of us parliamentarians who participate in the IAO, based on our common Orthodox Christian tradition, we confer to the peoples a testimony of peace and respect for the Other. At the same time, we make continuous efforts for cooperation with the Muslim world and with all those who, through religious faith and identity, work and serve the global values of solidarity and peaceful coexistence”.
The head of the IAO concludes by expressing “once more our solidarity to the Russian people, and please convey our feelings to the parliamentary delegation of the State Duma to the IAO”.
