Athens, 18 July 2023. Invitation to a Parliamentary Dialogue between Christians and Muslims by the IAO Secretary General, dr. Maximos Charakopoulos
On Tuesday, July 18th, the Secretary General of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO), dr. Maximos Charakopoulos, addressed a letter-invitation to his counterpart, the Secretary General of the Parliamentary Union of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (PUIC), Mr. Mouhamed Khouraichi Niass, concerning the development of a joint inter-parliamentary initiative. In the invitation of the head of the international institution of Orthodox parliamentarians, which follows the adoption of the Communique adopted by the IPU at the Parliamentary Conference on Interfaith Dialogue in Marrakesh on 15th June 2023, the important contribution of interparliamentary institutions to the “promotion of religious values in the field of politics and society” has been highlighted. Specifically, the IAO Secretary General proposes the joint organization of a Parliamentary Dialogue Conference “to promote the importance of interfaith understanding of the Christian and the Muslim Worlds”.
