Social-political activity

1971 – Graduated from the faculty of electro-techniques of the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute after Karl Marx. Engineer – electrician. 1988-1990 – Attended courses at the Academy of Social Sciences adjunct to the CPSU Central Committee (Moscow).
1971-1978 – Discharged secretary of the Young Communist League (YCL) at the faculty of electro-techniques of the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute after Karl Marx, Commander of the student construction section of Armenia in the Karelian Autonomous Republic. Instructor at the Central Committee of the YCL of Armenia, First Secretary of the YCL Committee of the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute, Head of the student youth division of the YCL Central Committee of Armenia.
1979-1987 – Instructor, Head of the sector at the administration of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (CP) of Armenia, assistant to the First Secretary of the CPA Central Committee, First Deputy to the Head of the division for party-organization works of the CPA Central Committee.
1987-1989 – First Secretary of the Yerevan Mashtots District CPA Committee.
1989-1990 – Mayor of Yerevan.
1991 – 1995 – Member of the observer group of “Andrnavtgazshin” JSC of the Ministry of Oil and Gas Industry of the USSR. Founder, Director of “Prometheus” Armenian Universal Exchange, “21st Century” LLC.
1997 – Founder and Head of the “National Unity” faction.
1998, 2003 and 2008 – Candidate for the Presidential elections of the Republic of Armenia. In presidential elections of 2003 got 17,6% of the vote.

Parliamentary activity

1995 – 1999 – Deputy of the National Assembly (electoral district # 7). Member of the Standing Committee on Financial – Credit and Budgetary Affairs of the National Assembly. Not included in factions and deputy group. Head of the “National Unity” party.
1999 – 2003 – Deputy of the National Assembly (proportional electoral system, “Law and Unity” alliance). Member of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly. Head of the “Law and Unity” faction.
2003 – 2007 – Member of the National Assembly (proportional electoral system, “National Unity” party). Head of the faction “National Unity”. member of the RA NA delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, member of the RA NA delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, member of the International Parliamentary Organization “Parliamentarians for Global Actions.”
2007-2012 – Head of the “National Unity” party.
2012-2017 – Elected Member of the National Assembly from the proportional electoral system from the Republican Party of Armenia. Member of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly. Head of the RA NA delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. Member of the “Republican” (RPA) faction.
April 2, 2017 – Elected Member of the National Assembly by the national electoral list of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA). Head of the “National Unity” party.
Chair of the Inter-parliamentary Committee on Cooperation between the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia and Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Head of the delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia to the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy.

Author of 16 books and numerous scientific analytical articles.
