In response to the invitation by the Bureau of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Member States (P.U.I.C.), a delegation of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (I.A.O.) headed by the General General Dr. Andreas Michailidis with the participation of the President of the General Assembly Mr. Sergey Gavrilov and the Advisor Dr. Kostas Mygdalis realized a visit to Tehran.
The I.A.O. members had a meeting with the new PUIC Secretary General Mr. Mouhamed Khouraichi Niass and the PUIC Assistant Secretary General Amb. Mr. Ali Asghar Muhammadi Sijani, during which they discussed issues regarding cooperation of the two parliamentary organisations, as well as the signing of the Cooperation Agreement, which was initialed in 2005.
The I.A.O. delegation visited the Parliament of Iran and had a meeting with the Deputy Speaker Mr. Ali Motahari, as well as a group of Christian MPs.
Additionally, they had a meeting with the Director General of the International Center for Interreligious Dialogue Mr. Mohammad Mahdi Tashkhiri, and they discussed issued regarding International Peace, cooperation between Christians and Muslims and the need to pursue dialogue.
During all meetings, the I.A.O. delegation offered as commemorative gift a copy of a manuscript dated 12th/13th century, Graecus Vitr. 26-2 – Codex Græcus, Madrid, Spain, Chronicle of Ioannis Skylitzes, Synopsis of Histories, detail depicting John Grammarian as ambassador before the Byzantine emperor Theophilos and the Abbasid caliph in Baghdad.
