The Secretary General of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (I.A.O.), Member of the Hellenic Parliament Dr. Andreas Michailidis had meetings with the Deputy Chairperson of the Russian State Duma Ms. Irina Yarovaya, as well as with the members of the State Duma – members of the I.A.O. – Mr. Sergey Gavrilov, Mr. Ivan Sukharev, Mr. Dmitry Vyatkin and Mr. Konstantin Zatulin, in Moscow on 19th of March 2018, with the participation of the I.A.O. advisors, Dr. Kostas Mygdalis and Prof. Valery Alekseev. Ms Yarovaya, during her welcoming address expressed her gratitude to Mr. Michailidis for visiting and participating with the status of observer to the Russian Presidential elections. Mr. Michailidis said that based on his observation “the elections’ procedure run smoothly and the voters were able to freely express their views”.
Mr. Michailidis conveyed the willingness to further retain the already existing friendly interparliamentary relations. He also assured the members of the parliament that Greece both in governmental and in interparliamentary level remains a communication channel and makes great efforts towards “the elimination of complications between Russia and Europe”.
During the aforementioned meeting, the future I.A.O. activities as well as organizational issues were also discussed.
Ms Yarovaya highlighted this year’s 25th I.A.O. General Assembly in Athens being its anniversary and that throughout its course, I.A.O. has become an organization with great experience in the parliamentary and collaboration field and it is remarkable, that representatives of different beliefs have succeeded to reflect on all values, which are of great significance for the whole world.
